Featured Fridays - Boho Rain

I would like you to meet Natalie Robbins and her Etsy shop:  Boho Rain.

If you love Bohemian Funky Hippie Boho Bags, Then you will love the items at Boho Rain.

Let's get to know Boho Rain and Natalie:

What would you like us to know about you?
I am a wife and mother of two boys. I have always loved art and appreciate all types of creativity. In my spare time I like to sew bags for my Etsy shop. I also love painting, beading, nature, reading, thrift store shopping, and spending time being happy with my family.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
I opened an Etsy shop because my friends and family encouraged me to sell my bags. I am so happy to have a wonderful way to share my creations!

How did you come up with your shop name?
To me 'Boho' is a style that is almost like a modern hippie, or bohemian style. I feel this is the best way to describe my bags and other items. I wanted the name of my shop to reflect the things I create. And I chose 'Rain' because I love the rain and I love Rain for a girls name.

How would you describe your shop?
I would describe my shop as fun, funky, unique, colorful and interesting!

What inspires you?
I am inspired by color, cultural designs, vintage, the 60' and 70's, nature, corduroy, and unusual fabric colors and textures.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
My favorite item to make is corduroy messenger bags from re-purposed fabric.

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
If I were stuck on an island, I would have to have paint, beads and fabric.

Where else can we find you?
and of course

Is there anything else you would like to share?
I would also like to say that I love using re-purposed fabrics: turning something old and unwanted into something new and functional. I feel it is one tiny way I can do my part to decrease the items in the landfills! I also enjoy connecting to people who have similar interests, and I welcome any and all comments or feedback!

For the month of May I will be offering this special:
May is my birthday month, and I would like to give you a gift! For the whole month of May, if you purchase any bag from my shop, you will get a necklace of your choice for free! You must choose one necklace from my shop (DO NOT purchase it) and contact me either before or at time of purchasing the bag, telling me which one you want. I will include the one you choose at no extra shipping cost with your bag! If you don't tell me which necklace you would like to have, I will not choose for you and you will not get a free necklace. Details are also available on my Facebook page and at my Etsy shop. Happy month of May!

I will ship anything internationally. If you need something shipped somewhere other than the US, you can contact me and I will provide a shipping quote for you.

Thanks so much Natalie.  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show Natalie some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh...and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

Have a great weekend!

Fun Stuff to do - Knitting

I knit a lot...I have collected a lot of inspirations, ideas, patterns, tutorials etc.  There are a ton of great blogs out there.  So I thought that I would share a few with you today.  Now I just need about 12 more hours in the day so that I can get all of my work done and still have time to play with all these ideas!

Do you have a fun thing to do that you would like to share?  Just leave me a post or drop me a line and let me know.

(all photos are clickable links and will take you to the tutorial or original blog post)

Learn to Knit Your First Scarf

Since this is my first post about knitting.  I thought we might start at the beginning.  VeryPink.com is a great website.  They have patterns and tutorials to teach you knitting right from the very start through knitting a sweater or gloves or many other things.

When you purchase their patterns, you also get links to detailed videos that walk you through each and every step.  I have taught people to knit and to expand their knitting with the help of their patterns and videos.  If you are interested in learning to knit, or to try out a new technique I highly recommend this website.

How to Make a Center Pull Ball

Knits with Balls has a great tutorial that you are going to need. Once you learn to knit and someone takes you to a yarn store, and you get over the heart/wallet attack, you may end up with some hanks of yarn that need to be made into center pull ball.

Until you decide to invest in a ball winder, this is a great tutorial for making balls that don't roll across the house when you drop them.

New Stitch a Day

I found this other great site with lots of tutorials and they have lot of knit stitches tutorials and videos.  This site has a ton of stuff you can use as a new and experienced knitter

Ravelry

No discussion about knitting would be complete without mentioning Ravelry.  It is hard to describe without writing a book but here goes:  It is an internet site with everything for knitters, crocheters and others. You can track your projects, your yarn, your needles and hooks, your library and you can visits with others who enjoy the same activities.  That is a very short description. It is also a community of very nice friendly people.  I suggest you go visit, sign up and then take the Tour/Getting Started

Well,  I have many many more things to say about knitting and don't get me started on spinning, dyeing, crochet, needlepoint etc.

I think it will be fun to look for things to share...the more people I can get addicted to knitting, the better!  and if you do need yarn or fiber or knitting accessories, you are most welcome to come see my Etsy store at Lileesgramknits

Have fun!

Fun Stuff to Do

I have always loved to do crafts.  I remember being 8 or 9 and spending my allowance on a pad of stationary and envelopes so I could use my watercolors to paint things like rainbows on pages of paper and make matching envelopes to give to people as gifts and to write to my pen pal that lived in Illinois with.

Nowadays I spend most of my time with my fiber, but I occasionally get the urge to "create" something else.  I also like to look for things to do with my Granddaughter.  I find myself spending more time than I should on pinterest and just blog grazing, so I thought it was about time that I shared some of the cool stuff I found with you.

(all photos are clickable links and will take you to the tutorial or original blog post)

Friendship Bracelets

This Tutorial is from Michael Ann Made.  It has great photos and directions and would be a great way to use up that extra embroidery floss we all seem to have, or if you are a knitter, you could use those little leftover balls of sock yarn!

How to make boxes from paint swatches

If you love little boxes, and who doesn't?  This is a great tutorial from
How About Orange  The directions are clear and the photos are great.
I am looking forward to making some of these probably for Christmas stocking stuffers.

Happy Mail

This is probably one of my favorite ideas.  I am a regular reader of Giverslog and Happy Mail  is such a great idea.

The idea is that if something weighs 13oz or less, that you can stick postage on just about anything and the good people of the USPS will mail it for you.

Take a look at this Flickr group to see other ideas to send some Happy Mail and cheer up someone's day!

Sharpie Tie-Dying

I love this tutorial from Sun Scholars.

This is one of the things that my granddaughter and I did for Christmas presents this past year.  We even bought some plain white pillow cases and decorated them too.

They were a big hit with the family and Lilee (9) got to make her own presents to give everyone.  She got even more creative and added personal touches like I love you Mom and other sweet sentiments

Well,  I have many more fun, good ideas that I will try to share on a regular basis.  If you know of a good one leave me a comment or drop me a line and I will be happy to share it.

Have a good on y'all.
