Talented Tuesday - Handmade by Cheryl

I would like you to meet Cheryl Weaver and her Etsy shop:  cherylweaver .

If you love handcrafted, orginal drawings, card, candle mats and much more, Then you will love the items at cherylweaver

Let's get to know cherylweaver and Cheryl:

What would you like us to know about you?
I have been painting for over 30 years in a style that leans toward nice primitive.

I live in a rural area near Gettysburg, PA, and have two grown children. I got started in my crafting because I love to work with my hands, and it was a creative outlet that I couldn't always feed with through my full-time job of teaching. In the back of my head was also the need to make extra money to pay my kids' college bills. I didn't have that luxury so it was important to me that my kids didn't have debt upon graduation from college.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
I started my Etsy shop in 2007 when I stumbled upon the site and became fascinated with how easy it was to sell all over the US. I ran the shop for several months at a time two different times. I loved it, but when the full blown craft season came around with 18 shows a year, I just didn't have the energy to do both. Over the years we have been dropping shows since our kids are married, and we are now getting social security. There wasn't the need to work so much. So I opened my shop again and started listing my canvas candle mats. LO and BEHOLD, the Better Homes and Gardens Holiday Craft Magazine saw one of my handpainted canvas candle mats in my shop and asked to purchase the rights to put it in their magazine that I believe will come out in August. Needless to say, I was thrilled and said YES:) So, now I am trying to get my shop stocked as they will be posting my Etsy shop with my candle mat and the directions of how to make it.

How did you come up with your shop name?
My shop name is Cheryl Weaver because I wasn't too creative at the beginning when I set it up. When I reopened it this year, I added Handmade by Cheryl to the Cheryl Weaver since that is what I go by in my local shows.

How would you describe your shop?
My shop is a collection of mostly my handmade items. They include prints of my handpainted work since they are easy to ship. I have many of my handpainted canvas candle mats listed which are done in the same manner as the primitive floor-cloths. I have not seen anyone else ever do these, at least not yet. LOL.  Other items include upcycled things I have purchased second hand. I put prints of my work on the front of old fiction books. They make a nice decoration for a coffee table or to stand on a bookshelf. Other items include some peg hangers, little gift tags, original ink sketches on muslin, my own doodles for stitching and painting, and small items adorned with my artwork in any way I can.

What inspires you?
I find inspiration in everything around me. I find sayings in comments people make in jest. I live with two cats and two dogs along with my husband, so I am always thinking creating items for animal lovers. I get inspiration for ideas from looking at others work, but I draw the line between being inspired and copying. I feel a strong need that what I create is uniquely my style even if the idea was already out there.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
Candle mats will always be my favorite item to make because there is no end to the creativity I can have with them.
If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
If I were stuck on an island with just a few things to keep me sane, I guess I would want to have brushes, paint, and a forever sharpened pencil. Of course, I would also be drawing in the sand with my finger. No tools needed for that.

Where else can we find you?
In addition to my Etsy store, you can also follow me on facebook. www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Handmadebycheryl/109874101027
I always enjoy having new followers.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
If you are in the area of Gettysburg, you can find me at the National Apple Harvest Festival on the first two weekends of October at the South Mountain Fairgrounds.

I love painting with friends so if you are near Gettysburg, contact me and maybe we can get a date scheduled to paint.

Thanks so much Cheryl.  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show Cheryl some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh...and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

Have a great weekend!

Featured Friday - An Astrid Endeavor

I would like you to meet Astrid R. and her Etsy shop:  AnAstridEndeavor.

If you love jewelry inspired by places from around the world, Then you will love the items at AnAstridEndeavor.

For my readers, Astrid is offering the following discount on her Etsy shop:
10% off orders please use code: BLOGLOVE10 in the coupon area at check out.

Let's get to know AnAstridEndeavor and Astrid:

What would you like us to know about you?
I'm so happy to be on this blog, and so thankful for the opportunity. It's amazing to have such a wonderful, supportive community of crafters and creators. That's been one of the greatest gifts Etsy has given me. I just love it!

As for me, I'm a full time mom, wife and employee at a hospital where I work with children providing them with psycho-social-developmental support for their illness or disease. I am also working towards my Marriage and Family Therapy license. So, I am a busy bee, but that's okay - that's how I like it. I am passionate about life, people, creativity and all the beautiful and interesting things this world has to offer.

Coming from a family of creators, I've been making things for as long as I can remember. I get this from my mom, grandma and aunties- all of whom are crafters and artists themselves.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
I've been participating in craft fairs and sales for many years, but since having a family it's been really hard to set aside time to make up a large inventory. Etsy is perfect for me, in that I can create items here and there when I have the time, which is usually at night when my little one is sleeping!

How did you come up with your shop name?
An Astrid Endeavor seemed like the perfect name since I'm always embarking on a different project or art medium. Jewelry is always the constant, but I didn't want my name to somehow "trap" me into just one art form. I've worked with clay, glass, weaving, paper, paint, fabric, wood- you name it!

How would you describe your shop?
Right now i am really into bright colors and shapes. I love making interesting jewelry- my inner anthropologist comes out as I have always been attracted to the history of jewelry and ornamentation across the globe and throughout the years.
What inspires you?
People and the natural world- jeez- everything! I just got hooked on Pinterest and it's been so addicting- the images are like candy for my eyes! I am have also been so inspired by so much beauty being created on Etsy, in my community, and across the world that I've been able to experience in person and right on the web!

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
I have to say, I really love the brooches that I have been making, both the embroidered ones and the beaded ones.

You can wear a brooch anywhere- it's another place to wear jewelry and it's not limited to one body part!

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
-Well, I would have to have a good sturdy needle (I'll figure out how to make thread out of coconut or something!!)

-my hot pink duct tape, which I use all the time at home, and I imagine would be very helpful for crafting and constructing useful things like a raft and shelter on a desert island!

-Matches. Now, I know what your are going to say, yes, the matches would be good for fire, BUT- imagine all the charcoal one could use for hours of unending sketching on rocks!!

Where else can we find you?
www.facebook.com/AnAstridEndeavor
pinterest.com/AstridEndeavor/

Is there anything else you would like to share?
Just unending gratitude and thanks for your interest!

Thanks so much Astrid .  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show Astrid some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh...and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

Talented Tuesday - Cherished Jewels

I would like you to meet Jessica and her Etsy shop:  CherishedJewels .

If you are looking for handmade hair clips, flower bobby pins, knit baby booties, and hats, Then you will love the items at CherishedJewels

Let's get to know CherishedJewels and Jessica:

What would you like us to know about you?
My name is Jessica and I am 19 years old. I love crafting in any way, shape, and form!! (I get it from my very talented grandmothers). I started knitting when I was a Sophomore in high school and have enjoyed expanding my creativity over the years. I mostly make hair clips and knit baby items, but am just learning to learn crochet, which is very exciting!
What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
Honestly, I started making so many things that I needed to start getting rid of it! And because I enjoy making stuff, I figured that if I could sell my handmade items, then I could use the money to buy more supplies to make more!! (It’s a never ending cycle with me!) I started selling my handmade goods in my mother’s consignment store, then decided to start an Etsy shop to have access to more people around the country.

How did you come up with your shop name?
I really wanted to include my middle name in my shop name. That way it would be somewhat personal, but not be obvious to everyone that it was me! So I came up with Cherished Jewels (Jewel being my middle name), which basically means that you should cherish all those precious jewels in your life. : )

How would you describe your shop?
Most of my items are for babies and children, like the beanies and baby booties. The hair clips can be used for any age, though. I make them for little girls and babies, but I am always wearing some of my handmade hair accessories and people always compliment them. They can even be worn by animals!

What inspires you?
My little sister would have to be a huge inspiration for me. Whenever she needs a matching hair accessory for an outfit, I’ll go and make her one. I love experimenting with different colors and styles and she is usually the first to try them out for me!

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
Definitely my hair clips because I can do so many different things with them! I can make them in any color I desire and can use yarn, ribbon, and even tulle. Plus, I LOVE shopping for different types of ribbon to make them with and there are so many cute accent pieces that I can accent them with. The possibilities are endless with my flower hair clips!

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
Yarn, ribbon, and my flower maker! :P

Where else can we find you?
I do not have any other websites besides Etsy, but if you ever have any questions, comments, concerns… you can email me at cherishedjewels@yahoo.com

Thanks so much Jessica.  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show Jessica some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh...and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

Have a great week!

Featured Friday - VeryCreativeCreation

I would like you to meet Ann Marie and her Etsy shop:  VeryCreativeCreation .

If you love one of a kind necklaces, bracelets and earrings, using antique and vintage jewelry, buttons, silverware, textiles, furs, china and glass. Then you will love the items at VeryCreativeCreation.

Let's get to know ShopPretties and Ann Marie:

What would you like us to know about you?
I am a mix of many things: wife, mother, Project Management Professional, an old soul from days long gone, an artist with a unique outlook. This shop is just a window into my eclectic mess of a mind.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
I was looking for a place to sell my recycled art.

How did you come up with your shop name?
My shop name is a variation on what people would always say when they saw my art creations. “oh that is very creative” was one of the comments I would always get, so it seem like the perfect name for my shop.

How would you describe your shop?
It is an eclectic mix of all vintage things I love; old jewelry, silverware, textiles, wooden boxes. Things that nobody knows what to do with but can’t seem to part with so I give them a new life and purpose so that people can enjoy them once again.

What inspires you?
Vintage items that have seen better days and need a new lease on life.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
I really love the garden and the geode pieces. The art garden because it is so simple and whimsical. The geodes just have such wonderful colors, textures and are such stunning pieces when they are complete.
If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
Oh this is a hard one, let’s see….. E6000 glue, a hand drill with bits, and a bolt cutter.

Where else can we find you?
As far as online, Very Creative Creations is only on Etsy. Now you can see many of my creations at Antiquefest in Liverpool, NY in July and again in the fall at Warrenburg, Ny’s Worlds Greatest Garage Sale
Is there anything else you would like to share?
That I love doing custom orders and working with customers one on one so never hesitate to talk to me about recreating your family heirlooms and memories by recycling them into art that you can wear and love.

Thanks so much Ann Marie.  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show Ann Marie some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh...and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

Talented Tuesday - vw53

I would like you to meet Vicky Willame and her Etsy shop:  vw53.

If you are looking for handmade doll clothes for 18 inch dolls, including American Girl. aprons, bingo bags, children's clothing, home dec items, wall hangings, place mats, tote bags and more. Then you will love the items at vw53. Vicky also welcomes custom orders

Let's get to know vw53 and Vicky:

What would you like us to know about you?
I love to sew. I have made doll clothes, children's clothes, my own clothes and clothes for friends. I do hemming, patching and alterations for friends. I have made curtains for myself and others, pillow shams, reusable bags and more. I have also made some mother-daughter items. I also love to crochet and will be adding some of my crocheted items to my store soon.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
I decided to open up a shop on Etsy, because of my love for sewing, I just kept sewing and before I realized it, I had enough in stock to start selling, so I then decided to get out and sell some of my items, but because of my back pain, it has been increasingly difficult to load and unload my vehicle for craft shows. I do not work outside of the home. I am hoping to try to do a few more in the future. I can sew whenever I am feeling up to it, which sometimes is at midnight or 4 in the morning. I have been sewing for a very long time. I started sewing in high school and over the years watched my mother do amazing things with fabric.

How did you come up with your shop name?
Due to my low income, I have made things for my home, myself and my children that I could not afford to purchase. I saved money and therefore the name "A Stitch in Time" seemed appropriate.

How would you describe your shop?
I have a lot of doll clothes in my shop right now, but am working on many other items to list. I have a lot of photographing to do, but will be listing my aprons and children's clothing soon.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by many of the sellers on Etsy. They have some amazing handmade items. They are so creative and talented.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
My favorite items to make are the child and doll matching dresses. That is something I wanted so badly as a child and never got. Now I can make all the doll clothes I want. I have also made some mother daughter items.

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
My 3 crafty must haves would be fabric, sewing machine and thread.

Featured Friday - Bundle Of Joy Shop

I would like you to meet Cheryl Porath and her Etsy shop:  BundleOfJoyShop.

If you love handmade Baby items, Then you will love the items at BundleOfJoyShop.

Let's get to know BundleOfJoyShop and Cheryl :

What would you like us to know about you?
I would first like to thank Teresa for giving not only me, but other Etsy shop owners this great opportunity.

My husband of over 25 years and I are new empty nesters. With our 3 wonderful children making lives of their own, we decided instead of being sad about the kids not being at home, we would start doing things on our bucket lists. One thing my husband did was join a band. He is the guitar player. I decided to take my love of crocheting and open my Etsy shop. I enjoy a variety of hobbies, which include gardening, needlework and sewing. My favorite hobby is crocheting. From the moment my Mom taught me how to crochet, I have always been crocheting something.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?
My oldest daughter has a shop on Etsy. When she told me how much fun she was having selling her items and being a part of the Etsy family, that is when I decided to sell crocheted items on Etsy.

How did you come up with your shop name?
Once I decided to focus on baby items, I wanted a baby related name. I thought about a name for weeks. For me a baby is love and happiness, hence the name " Bundle Of Joy Shop".

How would you describe your shop?
My shop sells baby items that I hand crocheted. Each crocheted item is made from premium yarn. Some of the items are: afghans, booties, diaper covers, sandals, hats and bottle covers. On a regular basis I am adding new items.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by my family, especially my Mom. She shows me by example how having many passions in life is a wonderful way to live.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
That reminds me of ornaments I gave to each of my children one Christmas. Each ornament said, "You are Mom's favorite". Some days my favorite item to make is a hat and then other days I enjoy making booties.

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
My entire craft room would be my first choice. That is one upside to being an empty nester, turning an empty bedroom into a craft room. The 3 items I would choose are: yarn, crochet hook and a needle.

Where else can we find you?
As of now the only place to find me is on Etsy. Being new to owning a business, I am looking into more options.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
Never give up on your dreams. I have always wanted to sell my hand crafted items and having a shop on Etsy has given me that opportunity. Owning Bundle Of Joy Shop is hard work that is a great deal of fun!

Thanks so much Cheryl .  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show Cheryl some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh...and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

A New Angel

I know that I don't usually share really really personal stuff, not lately anyway, but we had some news today and I feel like I need to write about.  Writing about things always seems to make it better.

They Flew from Florida to come to our Wedding
My Mother-in-law, Lori Metts, passed away suddenly yesterday.  I am very sad about her being gone, but I am mostly concerned about my Father-in-law, Terry.  He and Lori have been inseparable for as long as I have known them.  They remind me of Michael & myself, because they were such good friends as well as husband and wife.  When you were around them, you could see how much they loved each other.  So I am worried about him, what will he do without his best friend?  I am grateful that he has Lori's family near him to comfort him.

Love

Lori was young, just 55, it was way way to early for her to be gone, and I find it so hard to believe that such a bright light has gone out.  We lived in Florida, near them, for 5 years.  Lori was the person who had my wedding shower for me, she made me feel like part of the family and was always so generous.  Even after we moved back to Oregon, she always sent birthday cards, anniversary cards, and something at Christmas.  I always knew that she loved and cared for us.

At our Wedding
I just wanted to share some happy thoughts of Lori.  This is my way of honoring and remembering her.  She was a lovely person and touch many many peoples hearts and lives.  She will always be with us as long as she is in our hearts.

Happy and smiling is how I will remember you.
